Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is essential for preventing HIV transmission, but women, people of color, and those over 50 have not taken PrEP at a sufficient rate. With an emphasis on communities facing disproportionate rates of new HIV diagnoses, we call for increased funding for customized PrEP outreach, the removal of obstacles to receiving PrEP prescriptions, and the availability of new HIV longer-acting products in order to advance equity in protection against HIV transmission.
